Intetesting experience, worth trying... Until you check the bill... + 10 % tax + 5 % service charge. Bitter ending.
weird experience
I had already tried this restaurant in Amsterdam so I decided to repeat this experience in Phnom Penh. The entrance to the restaurant is well cared for and the staff are polite. Our waitress for dinner was kind and nice and cheered us up for dinner with her pleasant singing. The dining room is very dark, although some faint lights on the ceiling disturb a little. We chose the vegetarian menu for our dinner and honestly the quality of the food and the imagination of the dishes (a normal salad for starters and vegetable amouk as the main dish) leave something to be desired.Relatively low cost considering the particularity of the place.Overall, try it just to support this initiative that offers jobs for visually impaired people.
It was such a unique experience. If you go with friends you might have the best laughs. If you go with your partner you might end up having very deep and powerful conversations. The darkness makes you more vulnerable and more aware of the texture and the taste of the food (which is BTW, very delicious!). Really worth the experience especially for a special occasion!
Amazing experience at affordable price. Desert was a little off BUT experience was amazing!!!
Nice
Great experience!
Neat experience except the food was dreadful. The chefs surprise meals were just really badly done French cuisine. I couldn’t even take a bite of the dessert. Very disappointing for the price. Also it was hotter in the dining room than outside so just not the best time.
Cool place
Great experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good tasty food. A different experience for the senses!
Amazing experience, great give back to the community.
Awesome experience. Food is delicious. It’s a little overwhelming in the dark at first but the staff is great at talking you through everything.
Highly recommended! One of a kind experience. Something I'll remember for the rest of my life :)
Amazing experience. Must try. Don't be a picky eater.
Such a great experience! If you ever come to Phnom Penh this is a MUST!!!! You cant see sweet F all and your senses are heightened, good fun!
worth a try to try
Awesome experience! The food is delicious & the staff are accommodating & friendly.
Really awesome experience. Food is pretty good, but it's definitely more of an experience dinner than fine dining. They have others in different cities I think, but it was really interesting to eat dinner in such an unfamiliar environment.
Best meal in Phnom Phnom Penh . Service was excellent. Caring, and friendly. Food was served perfectly cooked, and experience was overall fun, mind opening. Support a good cause.
The food was good at #dineinthedark and we had a lot of fun guessing what did we put into our mouth. The service was great and yeah it is good to have a group of Friends to go along so you can enjoy ur time chitchatting all the things while waiting for ur food. PS: u can’t bring ur phone along and whatever devices that generate light. Something you should experience at least once.
If you go to this restaurant you will have an experience unlike any other while dining. Brings out the sense of taste in a way I could never see coming ;) Go and try it for yourself and you understand what I mean.
Dine in the Dark
Great experience! Don't want to mention the food as wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone but it was really good and definitely worth $18. Great place to try this sort of thing as other countries charge so much to experience this. It's actually my second time here.
It is a place where you can experience the life of invisible people.
Wonderful dining experience, excellent taste, excellent service, good prices (compared to DID elsewhere)
Be prepared for darkwness. Obiviously no food photos we're taken but lets just say we got primal. You may have to eat with your fingers but what a great experience. And to think your waiter/waitress is also visually impaired and they dont muss a beat. A must do!
Great experience, food is worth a try!
A whole new experience for me and my girlfriend. We had a very good time there. Totally recommend for couples. The foods are tasty, though it gets very messy cuz all you can see is darkness. I used hands to eat. The menu is below average when it comes to price but with the experience you will get then I would say that it is worth it. Totally come back for the other time. My girlfriend and I approved. The pictures below say about our experience there.
Great restaurant concept that make you really surprise. Food are really nice.
Loved the experience. Highly recommend going especially with your partner. For the first few minutes the dark gets to you, but after a few minutes your other senses have kicked in and the food and conversations are much more apparent to you than before.Food was amazing, the service as well (and impressive). Be prepared to eat with your hands!
Amazing Experience!
Great experience and great cause. The food was good, you could choose one of the surprise sets - Khmer, international or vegetarian. They also ask if you have any food allergies or requirements. We didn't so can't vouch for that. Honey our guide was lovely to talk to. I would recommend experiencing eating in complete dark so much different than you think and you might Lear a thing or two. One suggestion - it would be nice to show photos of the actual meals you made for guests rather than generic photos for everyone. I think it would be easier to put everything together after you finished eating.
Not only a great cause and an awesomely enlightening experience, but the food itself was awesome.
We had an amazing time. It was by far the most memorable dining experience I've had. The menu is a mystery but you pick a selection of your choice and the food sort of follows that initial theme. All the food was delicious, there were no insects or anything too weird on our plates. The service was great too, the waiters are in some way visually impaired so they do a great job of helping you find your way in the pitch dark of the eating area. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a different experience (but nothing too crazy). We walked out with a deeper empathy for the visually impaired and a personal gratitude for our own good fortune.
The best meal I had in phnom Penh and maybe Cambodia. It's an experience to itself. We ordered the chef special and I don't want to say what we had but it was incredibly tasty and eating in total darkness is a bizarre sensation but you get used to how to feed yourself fairly quickly. Even if you have to resort to fingers. The service staff are all visually impaired and help with your meal and really assist the experience
Quite an experience! You dine in absolute and total darkness. You are served by blind wait staff and only see what you have eaten after. (a picture). A little pricey for Cambodia but well worth it once. Not something you want to do too often..
Disappointed that while it was $18, this is still a cash only place. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my experience here! The food came in a timely manner and all four courses were delicious, some surprisingly. I also enjoyed the music and the not-too-loud atmosphere (granted, there were only 2 other customers there). My waiter and I tried to make some chit chat, but alas the language barrier held. In the latter third of my meal, he was talking to this other waitress and even started eating too (which was loud and crunchy, may I add).At the end, in bright light, when they revealed the foods to me, I really wish the experience was heightened, as in, the dishes/ingredients explained to me (and for this to happen, the workers would need better English), and that the dishes had better names... It’s funny because the presentation of the food was great, but there’s no point when you can’t see, so the emphasis would then be placed on the flavors, textures, aromas, history, etc., no?
Good service and a nice place to try
Interesting experience and nice evening. I really enjoyed eating in the dark
One-of-a-kind experience! I chose to dine here with my family on my birthday. And it didn't disappoint. We ordered 2 sets of food. Each set had an entree, a main dish and a dessert. The meals were served at the upper floor in complete darkness. But our visually-impaired guide/host did great in making us feel safe. I was able to guess all the ingredients except one. Gourmet food. Highly recommended.
One of the best experiences I've had travelling south east Asia 100% recommend!
The experience is totally worth it! The food is delicious, the staff is super nice, the owners are awesome. The experience makes you re-learn how to eat, forces you to focus on the taste of food and, ultimately, makes you discover how it is to eat blindly.
Wasn't expecting much as I've had a few of the blind massages, some of which were pretty average. This however was great, from start to finish. Dine in the Dark is surprisingly classy inside (I can only speak for the lit section) with equally good service. Off upstairs in to the pitch black we were escorted by our blind waitress for the evening, who spoke good English and was great fun. The whole experience was truly novel, even for someone who wouldn't normally be in to a themed evening. No one spilled drink or ended up with food down their front so you probably don't need to worry about that. Highly recommended. And of course the food was superb, justifying the higher than average prices.
Food is pretty bland and not great but it's a fun experience.
Sitting in the dark and feeling the weight of it pressing down was quite claustrophobic but the food took my mind off the dark. It was fun guessing what was on the plate and trying not to make a mess. My husband and I both had the chef’s selection and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
Very special experience to be in the darkness. And on top try to eat. Everybody should try this experiencr. And can surely recommend.
I had one of the best experiences there, having dinner in the dark is one of the coolest thing I have ever tried. Highly recommend for this place.
Unique fun and delicious
Amazing experience! All the staff were lovely, and were able to inform them of eating requirements; I am vegan, so I was able to choose the vegetarian menu and tell the I was vegan, and they fully catered to me.I really loved the food (which you get to see a photo of afterwards) and it was a very unique way to spend the evening. Would highly recommend for anyone!!
